ACCORDING to the World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2005, Nigeria was ranked 197th out of 200 nations. Life expectancy was put at 48 years for males and 50 years for females; while Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) for both sexes was put at 42 years. In HALE’s estimation, Nigeria only ranked higher than five countries; Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Lesotho.

The WHO report further states that Nigeria accounts for 10 per cent of global maternal mortality figure, with 59,000 women dying yearly from pregnancy and child birth. It adds that for every maternal death, 30 others suffer long term disabilities while 40 per cent (about 800,000) of global obstetric fistulas occur in Nigeria.

In order to provide equitable access to healthcare delivery in Nigeria, the Federal Government of Nigeria introduced National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This essay explores the knowledge or perceptions of Nigerians and their attitude towards the scheme and how it affects the realisation of Vision 20:2020.

Nigerian National Health Insurance Scheme was launched with the major aim of improving accessibility and equity in healthcare delivery. The scheme suffered a long lag between conceptions and implementation due partly to the opposition by healthcare professionals, administrators and even the general public owing to misconception and inadequate knowledge of the principle of health insurance. But with the innovations, techniques and publicity brought in by this patriotic Nigerian in person of Muhammad Bello Waziri Dogo, the Executive Secretary of NHIS, professional health expert per excellence, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon Edinburg, with special bias in Urology.

He has been able to actualise the mandate of the scheme through introduction and launching of Community Base Insurance Scheme to cater for those in the informal sector; who are not beneficiaries of this scheme as a result of the defect in the Act establishing the scheme. However, this giant stride has endeared him to Nigerians who believe in his wealth of experience as the emancipator of the health sector.

A key element in assessing the level of implementation of the NHIS scheme in Nigeria and the achievement it has recorded so far under the pragmatic leadership of Dogo Muhammad can be a regular assessment of the knowledge and attitude of the healthcare professionals and Nigerians in the formal sector informal sector and how the indices will serve as a yardstick to the actualisation of Vision 20:2020 blue print in the health sector.

Mairuwa locates and maps water resources and stores a database of these resources thereby allowing users to access this information from various platforms – web and mobile (web, java application, SMS and over time – android).

It also allows the regulating body (in this case, Lagos State Water Corporation) to map out problematic areas and this will in turn, aid water distribution.

We will used crowd-sourced data, SMS longcodes and keywords, the web interface will also contain realtime maps while all the interfaces will give you the nearest water resource and it’s distance from your location while also showing you its ease of sccess. We will be implementing GIS technologies as well as traditional programming languages.

the idea is simple using IT technology and entrepenuership tools which include basic hardware n software sets, we design and set up small data collection centres and national and local stations where by health is at your doorstep and fingertips from house to house and from urban to rural communities and it is delivered to you through a network of health workers, doctors, clinics, hospitals, emergency response teams, ambulances, pharmacies and pharmaceuticals as well as health insurance agents, social workers, aid and relief volunteers and the general public. the app will be a mixture of a web service that can be integrated in other websites and blogs as well as enabled on both mobile and desktop gadgets and also utilize short message service and texts(for offline and smartphone-less) or will incorporate data capture techniques, through adds in Android or Apple applications ,the application will provide information on health in general , where to locate it, the distance from your position (using GIS and GPS) , the response time, emergency contacts and will provide a voice chat or phone system where an operator can relate and identify the health risk and also enables the victim to communicate effectively his/her problems , also it will calculate health risk and provide tips for emergency warnings and what to do and how to plan for effective health and emergency contigencies incase of flooding and other climatic conditions and will be broken down into phases:

1. emergency response and interaction(national and local)
2. general knowledge and education(tips ,short code services, data count, health calculator, files, research, links, contacts)
3. health e reporting/eye witness
9.other life tools like weather and climate reports
10.community policies and health choice

the application promises to be very effective as it networks all sectors of the health industry and its use in the community will educate and develop the youths who will be the major drive force as well as getting cheap, affordable and quick response to their medical needs since it will be launched both in urban and rural areas there is an endless list of point to point capital and development suite in a hands of an entrepreneur it also provides means of developing human capital and productivity by keeping with global standards and getting more research for local studies and also health practises that can benefit that community or rural area thew application will not only benefit the medical or health sector but will engage people from IT, NO, social entreprenuership, law, science, art, agriculture, water, transport, environment, banking, economy and government.the application in terms of emergency can help in mobilization, monitoring and assessment of health risk and safety planning helping in crisis management and development as well as general procurement for emergency matters and will help government agencies on emergecy have immediate response and contact to effectively cover areas.

The idea is to gather and get refurbished systems that are no longer used by companies either due to upgrading or other minor technicalities, these systems are now made whole by techniciand and other ICT specialist that will do majorly one function to educate so we can get and order for many desktop systems n open schools and centres to help community members to undestand how to use systems and what they can gan by being computer literate also it aims to develop young children to be more ICT inclined which can lead to harnessing idea power and development, we can provide computers to homes that will come with solar powered UPS( to check battery/light) guides and modems for research we will also offer and create courses that make and give certificates to them and wait for it in their OWN LANGUAGE! thereby eliminating the language barrier but also english and other subjects will be taught the children will eventually be able to act as human capital and be developed able to conduct and assess problems in the community because ICT brings solution to rather complex problems , in terms of education they are open to thousands of research practise and files to help them develop mentally and generally, teachers and staff will be on hand to provide do it yourself service and skill building the estimated output is creating employable youths, children and adults that can service and generate income for capacity and infrastructural development as well as makes and creates a hub for peace as social vices will be shunned leading to more interactions and the best fact is that all kit come custom made to an area but are linked so there are internal exchange development and external and global opportunity for more empowerment expeced results are development of techprenuers , ict savvy, developers , cleric staffs, general ict trend, a local think tank and structured community and a 99% education increase which help to keep students in school than on the streets as well as presents and helps the community image.

Dubbed Africa 2.0, the advocacy group recently met in Mombasa, Kenya, to bring together some 250 young businessmen, social entrepreneurs and opinion leaders from nearly 40 African countries to work toward a strategy that could help the continent leapfrog and accelerate its development.

“If you think about it, China has an agenda for Africa. India has an agenda, Europe, America. It’s about time we Africans set an agenda for ourselves.” says Mamadou Toure, founder of Africa 2.0.

The move comes as Africa undergoes a period of economic transformation, becoming increasingly attractive to international investors — last year, the continent’s economy grew by nearly 5% while six of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world are currently from Africa.

Well my idea is pretty simple. A lot of us have books we used at various levels of our education in the Nigerian education system. In the end of every phase we,

1. Pass it down to your sibling
2. Put it away in the family library (the store)
3. Get rid of it (Burn or Trash it)

This programme is not for those in the first category, its for the rest where these books are not given to someone who needs it.

What this program will do is to collate books in the community especially from children of the rich who are moving to new classes/grades or done using a particular book(s), then giving same to people from poor homes who need these books and whose the familys\’ priority is food on the table (not some damn books). Books gotten through this medium can also be donated to the library of schools who cannot afford to buy the same.

This is programme can be used to limit the excuses that the parents give when asked \”Why is your child not in school?\”

We\’ll in a way reduce carbon emission from books burning, reduce the amount of wastes per day of some families, educate the population and most importantly help the needy.
